Rooftop

on Friday evening, bear and i went out on a date. an actual hand holding, he pays for my dinner, fireworks at the end of the night (literally) kind of a date.... and it was terrific. 

i had been hearing so many good things about this new restaurant, cubbys. So for our dinner date we tried it, and it was amazingly delicious. i had a chicken sandwich and bear had the famous tri-trip. a highly recommended place if you are ever in the provo area. 

after dinner, we headed to the rooftop concert. it was perfect weather, we got a semi good seat, and the line up of singers for the tom petty tribute concert looked great. we (bear) are huge fans of tom petty so we were pretty excited about the concert. we rocked out under the stars, sang our heart out, and enjoyed the evening. 

plus, the night ended with a firework show and a kiss from the one i love. oh, and a refreshing ice cream shake.

a date night for you

1. Rent a tandem bicycle. BYU offers bike rentals for a great price. Go here for more information.
2. Head on over to the Provo River trail to bike along the river and through the trees. My recommendation is to start near the parking lot at lakeshore Dr and N. Boat Drive. There are great areas to stop and take breaks along the trail, or if you are really adventurous jump off the rope swing. Go here for more information about the Provo River Trail.
3. After your bike ride, it's hamburger eating time. The best hamburger joint in Provo is Stans drive in. It has the perfect small town drive-in feel, and they claim to be the ones who invented fry sauce. For hours and directions, go here.
4. There is nothing better than ending the night with a movie and popcorn. A dark movie theater is the perfect place to cuddle! Hit up the dollar movies in Provo to see an old classic or a (semi) new release. But hey, it's a dollar so you can't complain too much about the movie. Go here to check movies and times.

I realize this date night is catered towards people living in Provo, Utah. However, you can use these ideas to create a similar date in your area. Enjoy.

we went to the theater

Last weekend Bear and I went to the theater. We called it our "staycaction". You know, where you do fun things and act like you are on a vacation, in all actuality you have never left your town and will go back to your house that evening. 

We wanted to do some thing here in Provo that we had never done. So we decided the theater was a good choice. We went and saw a ballet, The Land of Oz put on by the classical ballet academy based here in Utah. The dancers were beautiful, the choreography was well done,  and it kept Bears attention. Which was the one thing I was worried about. 

Next up was a drive to the Y parking lot. It was a beautiful night, warm and the sky was so clear. Bear and I sat on a rock watching the town below us. It was romantic! We talked a lot. about life, our love for each other, and the many plans that we have. It felt like we were on our first date all over again. We even kissed, sitting on that rock over looking Provo. ahhh. 

After our special evening out, we decided to go home and sleep in our extra bedroom. Break up our routine and pretend we were on vacation, that was the thought. And it worked. It was something different, a little change in the normal sleeping arrangements and... I will let you guess what happened next.  

It was a wonderful evening. I hope that we can have many more like it. 

an envelope date

Here's the deal... i love looking forward to something and weekly date nights were the perfect thing.  bear and i use to do weekly dates when we lived in new jersey but since stopped (remember I mentioned that in this post).  date nights were one thing that we put on our 2012 goals to start back up again. so i thought i would make it a little fun and create six envelopes  each holding a card with a date written on it. we went ahead and created six dates. me writing three and bear writing three. we did not show each other what we came up with. i mixed the cards up and stuck them in the envelopes.  each monday we will pull that weeks date card. i can't wait to open them and see what fun things we get to do with each other. 

P.S I stuck magnet strips on the back of each envelope and put them on the fridge.

Taco Date Night

hello August! I can't believe that you are already here. 

the summer has gone by so quick that I feel like we haven't even had a summer. I guess the stress of moving has taken up a lot of our time. 

we were able to enjoy a little family camping trip this past weekend. Bear got to go fishing, 

we roasted  marshmallows, 

and really enjoyed being around family. 

and last week, Bear took me on a taco date night. the tacos were amazing 

and the company of my hubby was even better. 

Things in Utah have been good. 

There are times when the thought of New Jersey comes into mind 

and I start missing friends, our routine, our favorite restaurants, and local spots.

 However, we still think this move was a good choice. 

and once we get our life squared away, I know we  will enjoy being here even more.

last night we sat by our cozy fireplace and ate our delicious dinner. 

and to end the evening, we had 2 bowls of ice cream each... it was lovely!

Friday Night Date

dear husband,

no pictures documented our fantastic evening on Friday. We went to Trader Joe’s together and then you took me to our favorite consignment shop. And even though you don’t like shopping of any kind, you went and made it so much fun. The best times with you are the ones that are unplanned and a little spontaneous. Where we wonder around and have no time constraints. We wondered Trader Joe’s picking up everything that sounded or looked yummy. We ended up with a basket full by the time we were done. The consignment store went the same way. Beside I found a couple more items than you. Sorry about that. Then we went to our all time favorite dinner location. Pooja. We ordered are usual and actually ate in the restaurant (we usually do take home).  I loved how you talked on and on about our crazy book idea (we will accomplish that one day). You made me laugh.. really hard! Nothing else mattered that evening. When we got home, you should have been starting on some schoolwork, but instead you cuddled with Shento and me on the couch. I loved everything about Friday night. And I want to remember it forever.

Geo Art Date

Bear and I made a pact with each other for this (hopefully final) semester. The pact is that each weekend we do or see something that we have never done/seen while in New Jersey. 

This past weekend we went to the Geology museum on Rutgers campus. It was small and slightly under construction, but we had fun.  Lots of pretty rocks and minerals and some cool dinosaur bones. The Art museum happens to be right next door so we decided to stroll around there for awhile. In the kids section they had a mini table, probably because it is for children under the age of 10- on the table were colored pencils. The instructions said to draw a picture representing one of the pieces of art that you had seen in the museum. Bear and I plopped right on down in the mini chairs to draw us a pictures. Bear’s was good. 

We thought about asking if they would display it. 

After the art museum we headed out to lunch at our favorite Chinese noodle place. 

Later, we walked to the newly build bookstore and enjoyed the views of downtown. 

Fire, Love and Cards

Date Night... Last Wednesday we reinstated our date nights. The nights have been getting colder and the fall air has been nippy.  I have even started to wear my scarfs and hats. This particular weeknight was very chilly.  This meant two thing. Homemade stew and a fire. We pilled the blankets in front of our fire and  played cards (Bear won), ate homemade green chili chicken stew, and cuddled the night away. It was very romantic, and a lot of fun too!

Date Night + Tree Down

Date nights are (use to be) a weekly thing at our house. It gives us something to look forward too. Plus, it is one of the only times that I get to sit down with the hubby and have a "real" conversation, none of the school talk, although I do think that school is important, I hear enough of it throughout the week. This weeks date night was a surprise. Hubby has been so (emphasis on so) busy that our date nights have been put to the side for a little while. However, on Wednesday night Hubby walks through the door with flowers, a box of popcorn, and a movie. I made chinese food and we cuddled on the couch. Mind you, it had been clear all day and night. We even sat outside and enjoyed the sunset. Well, the sunset was gone and the clear sky had past. The wind blew in and the rain was coming down. Lighting was illuminating the sky. It made our date night that much more romantic. Rain always seems to add a little romance to things. It stormed all night, we listened to the rain hit our roof as we fell asleep. The next morning, out our back window the tree had fallen down.
