Fall in New Jersey

Employed

I got a job. After two interviews, a creative project, and so much nerve and anxiety I got the job that I had been wanting. I started 3 weeks ago and so far am enjoying it. I am the Marketing Assistant for Bedford.St.Martins publishers. We mostly publish AP high school books and work with authors and teachers. I plan events, create brochures and flyers, assist the marketing manager, and lot of other crazy stuff. 

Bear was so cute the night I had heard I got the job. He took me out to this very nice dinner and had a romantic evening with me. Here are some pictures of that night. 

Orange Leaves on a Rainy Fall Day

Fall is definitely in the air with the smell of rain over powering this area, pumpkin patches showing off big orange pumpkins, and the leaves slowly changing to a brightly colored red and orange.

This is above a pond that in the Winter it freezes and you can ice-skate on it.

 Shento and I went and experienced the beauty of fall yesterday as we walked around the Raritan River Park. It was a drizzly day and puddles of water were scattered over the park. Shento took pleasure in running through the puddles and enjoyed the mud flying up around him. The stillness was incredibly relaxing and the beauty that surrounded us was quite and serene. 

Random Fun

Bear and I talked a couple weeks ago about making an effort to do something different and fun every week.  Here are some random pictures of the past couple weeks of some of our adventures. 
We decided that we wanted to have some fun pictures of Shento that we could frame in our extra bedroom. We decided to have a photo shoot with our dog. It turned out quite fun and pretty funny.  
  Shento had hurt his paw a couple weeks ago (it is still healing) and he just seemed so sad. I had to take this picture of his cuddled up in blankets. Bear and I on our motorcycle ride. It was probably one of the hottest days that we have had and getting off the bike to walk around was miserable. We ended up only walking around the lake for a minute because we were so hot. 

Last night we went out to dinner with all the anthropology grad students. It was a lot of fun to just go out on the town and be around people. All the people were so nice and it seems like we will have some fun times with all of them. Tonight we are going to the Hamilton Street Festival. I will let you know how it goes.

I Love New York

New York is everything you expect and more. The hustle and bustle of the very big city is a little overwhelming at first but you get use to it and find that it is somewhat enjoyable being surrounded by many people, big buildings, and just about everything else you could imagine.  A couple weeks ago we had some good friends fly into Newark on a layover to Germany. They had such a long lay over that we thought we could do some exploring of the Big City so we caught a train in headed into New York City. Stepping out of the train into the train station was something right out of the movies. Time square was busy with people going in every direction and doing everything possible from touring the city to racing around in business. It's loud because everyone including buses think that if they honk the traffic might magically disappear. At that moment I think all four of us realized how little we really are in all reality. As we all started to adapt the shock of the craziness we started to really enjoy what the Big apple had to offer. After walking around Time Square we headed north to Central Park. This was beautiful. It is this quite sanctuary in the middle of this huge city. There is a bridge that you walk under that takes you to the Bethesda Fountain and near that people are rowing little boats in the small lake.  After that we headed to the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. We watched some people break dance in the street and admired the bikes that had a cart attached to the back of the bike that people could sit in and enjoy the city by bike besides they are not the ones pedaling. As we moseyed along we went to the New York Public Library, and the Saint Patrick Cathedral which had amazing architecture and was just gorgeous. We walked for about 6 1/2 hours total and got to see some amazing things. We can not wait to go back and do some more exploring.

Our Little House

We have had so much fun decorating and making our house a home. Bear has been such a good husband and when it comes to saying "yes dear". He hangs everything up and goes along with my creative but wacky ideas. For instance, We had looked all over for a short yet wide piece of furniture to go below are TV. I was afraid that we had become to picky and would never find anything that we wanted so.... while I was walking around Target I saw this awesome bookshelf (also very cheap). When I looked at it I did not see a bookshelf I saw the 

wide yet short piece of furniture that we have been looking for.. I bought it and lugged it home. I told Bear about my wonderful idea and you could see in his face he just did not think the same as I did. He laughed but still put it together and to his surprise it turned out amazing. ( I will post a picture soon of our new piece of furniture or as Bear calls it "the sideways bookshelf.)

Olympics

It is 11:47a.m (Jersey time) on Sunday and we had great intentions of waking up and going to church this morning but when the olympics are on the night before you have some what of a predicament. There is something about the olympics that just catches your attention and you end up never leaving the couch. That is exactly what has been happening to us the past couple days. We start watching them at around 8p.m thinking that we will just watch a little a go to bed and all of a sudden it is 1 in the morning and we are still watching. Bear turned to me last night and said " we have never watched this much TV in are whole lives of knowing each other" and I think he is probably right but when the Olympics are on it's a whole different story.. 

Katrina has been working hard to decorate and put together our house and I think its almost there! I do all the manly things that need being done while she makes the place look pretty. Also, we've been really enjoying cooking with all our new appliances and figuring out how to be gourmet chefs. Recently, Katrina has been speaking with different businesses and has had a few interviews in her search for a job. I took a little one day trip to Manhattan to see a few friends and can't wait to take Katrina back to see how huge of a place that is. My pop came and visited our place on his way to D.C. We're better prepared for guests now that we have the house put together. Around home we've been checking out the different parks, Shento loves it. All along the Raritan river, right next to downtown New Brunswick and the Rutgers' campus there's a huge park with baseball and soccer fields, plenty of trees and places to walk and even a little zoo. Apparently birds don't like Katrina because as we're walking up to the row of pheasant cages from all over the world one of them lays down, starts kicking, and then lays still...dead. Check back in the next day or two for some pictures of around the house and our little gardens.
